About
A plain-language guide to credit cards in Canada
CrediTutr teaches you how credit cards work, so you can read a statement, avoid the costly traps, and pay down a balance on your own terms.
Start the courseWhat CrediTutr is
CrediTutr is a free course on credit card rules in Canada. It explains interest, the grace period, fees, and how to pay down a balance, using one fictional statement that every lesson refers back to.
You learn in short lessons, check your understanding with quizzes, and practise with scenarios. Questions you miss come back on a schedule, so the rules stay with you.
Who it is for
- People getting their first credit card.
- People who carry a balance and want a clear plan to pay it down.
- Anyone who wants to read a statement with confidence.
No background in finance is needed. Each term is defined in the glossary, and each lesson starts from what you already know.

How the teaching works
- One statement throughout. Every lesson uses the same fictional statement, so each figure you learn to read is one you will see again.
- Quizzes. Short checks after the lessons show which answers were right and why.
- A review queue. Missed questions return after one day, three days, then a week.
- Payoff calculator. See how a monthly payment changes the time and interest needed to clear a balance.
Where the rules come from
Rules are checked against Canadian official sources, including the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) and the Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments (OBSI). Points that are not yet confirmed are listed on the Getting help screen, with links to their sources.
Check your own cardholder agreement for the terms that apply to your card.
What it is not
CrediTutr is an educational course. It is not financial advice or legal advice, and it does not recommend any product or bank. The Unreal Bank statement and the people in it are fictional.
For decisions about your own money, speak with a qualified adviser or a nonprofit credit counselling agency.
